Before we came to the marriage renewal weekend we were distant, cold, and angry with each other. Our only communication was arguing. Our marriage was so bad that we didn’t say a word to each other on the way to the retreat. But this was the shot in the arm our marriage so desperately needed. We have had twelve years of anger that was stored up in us released. We were given the tools we needed to help us communicate with each other without screaming. It helped me to look at my husband in a new way – not as my enemy! The anger I had toward him is leaving and I now have a renewed love for my husband. This weekend we realized that God was not a part of our marriage and it has brought us both into a closer relationship with Him. Jean S, Sugar Land, TX “God is so good! He is working in our marriage and we are seeing a remarkable difference. I know now, beyond any doubt that I am blessed with such a wonderful wife. Our relationship has been so much better and we’re much closer than in the past. Last week we had a wonderful anniversary celebration. It was our 38th. We had fun, talked, held hands, laughed and loved, and prayed together. I know I have not “arrived” and that there will always be challenges. However, I am now enjoying a more loving journey with Mary. Since the retreat I cannot say enough how much I Love Jesus and my wife. She is loving, caring, compassionate and tenderhearted.
I also want to say thank you to you both. This ministry is needed so very much. It has changed our marriage. Please let us know when the next retreat is and send us some brochures so that we can give them out to friends. We also plan to send my son and daughter-in-law. May the Lord bless you and Sue.”

“We recently hosted "Keeping Love Alive," a marriage enrichment seminar presented by Roy and Sue Milam of Cornerstone Marriage and Family Ministries. Roy and Sue's practical insights and transparency had a profound effect on our couples. They spoke from a wealth of understanding and personal experience that hit the issues our couples were facing head-on.
They helped us understand the importance of meeting one another's emotional needs, granting forgiveness, and cultivating love and intimacy through practical methods of communication. There is no doubt that good marriages were made better and struggling marrriages were given hope for a brighter future. I am happy to endorse them and recommend them whole-heartedly!”

Testimonial from Steve Riggle, Sr. Pastor, Grace Community Church, Houston, TX
Roy and Sue Milam of Cornerstone Marriage & Family Ministries faithfully served at Grace Community Church for ten years. They developed and implemented a marriage and family ministry at our church and organized a team of individuals to support and carry out the work.
Roy and Sue conducted ongoing marriage skill classes and worked with hundreds of couples in our church and community teaching the basis for a successful marriage and helping them to build strong marriages.
They also worked extensively with troubled marriages. We saw couples who were torn apart due to affairs, financial crisis, step parenting, unresolved conflict, anger and bitterness. Through their teaching, many of the couples experienced restoration and avoided divorce as a direct result. Roy and Sue also taught marriage preparation for our engaged couples.
They also organized and started a parenting program with age specific classes including new parents and adolescents. They equipped couples with the skills and confidence needed to raise responsible children.
We are committed to their current marriage renewal weekends and marriage education programs and will use our resources for promotion and use of facilities. The need in our community for these services is great. I know of no similar program in the Houston area where couples can go when their marriage is in trouble. I highly recommend this program.
Sincerely,

The weekend was incredible! After 18 years of marriage and with two children our marriage was in shambles. Unresolved issues and painful events of the past had eroded our relationship to a point of despair We were disconnected and disgruntled, basically just coexisting under the same roof with little or no intimacy, just surviving, living in our own worlds. In spite of my adamant beliefs against divorce, I saw no hope for our marriage. There was nothing left but to leave and move on with our separate lives. In November of 2000, I moved out.
After a 2½-years of separation we decided to explore the possibilities of reconciliation, and heard about Cornerstone’s “New Beginning,” Marriage Renewal Weekend on KHCB radio. We attended in March 2003.
With guidance we were able to talk through things…. It was an experience where God was invited in and we felt His presence. It was the kind of environment we needed to ask for and grant forgiveness. We forgave each other for the years of pain and the hurts we had caused one another.
It gave us practical steps to follow in communicating and resolving our differences and we gained a mutual understanding of each others’ needs…. But the greatest benefit of the weekend, was realizing that I needed to put God first in my life regardless of what happens in my marriage.”
After the retreat we attended all of the follow-up sessions and applied the principles to their relationship. In June we moved back in together. Several months ago, we renewed our wedding vows. We are so thankful for your work.
